It is in EVERTHING ! We know that it's bad for us, but do we know why?
Canadians on average consume 26 teaspoons of sugar per day.
This works out to 88 lbs per year.
The type of sugar that I'm talking about is the white refined sugar. The stuff that has no nutritional value.
When I first made changes to my eating habits back in 2002, my first action was to cut out white refined sugar. Because it is hidden in so many processed foods, this is the hardest one. It's harder then cutting out dairy and gluten.
The second ingredient in cornflakes? Sugar.
As we know what you eat effects your body, lets look at what sugar does to you when it enters your bloodstream.
The two molecules that make up sugar are glucose and fructose. Once you ingest sugar, the glucose molecule circulates throughout your body, feeding our muscles and our brain.
The fructose molecule however, goes to the liver. When you have too much fructose, your liver then turns that energy into liver fat and this is where diseases start.
So, if sugar is in everything, what do you do?
Eat the whole food (of course)!
