One of the most frequent questions that I get asked is, "How do I fix my skin?"
Skin is the largest organ of the body. When the body is detoxing, more often than not, it shows up in the skin. In the many years I yo-yo'd off and on dairy and gluten without fail, my eczema would come back - sure sign of detox.
Food allergies, poor diet, lack of certain essential fatty acids, acid/akaline balance are just some of the contributing factors that relate to your skin.
Now that we know this, how do we attempt to fix it? From the inside out. It's probably not entirely shocking that I am going to say whole food. Popping a pill will not fix the issue. Nor will creams and chemicals. These are only bandaid solutions. It is better for your body to have the whole food because the nutrients work in conjunction with each other.
Eg. In order for your body to absorb calcium you also need boron, phosphorus etc. which is also found in that same food. Because of this, your body also absorbs more nutrients from food than it does for supplements.
There is synergy in food people!
One of my many mantras - "Eat the food- not the chemical" applies here.
I looked into the separate ingredients of a specific skin medication and found the foods that help with the same function and/or contain the highest amounts of those nutrients.
Here we go.....
Ingredient : Hepar sulphuris calcareum
What it actually is: Calcium sulphide. It is made by burning the white part of the inside of oyster shells together with sulphur flakes.
Where you can get it: It is a chemical, so it doesn't exist in food!
How this relates to food: Sulphur in the body behaves like fly paper. The toxins stick to the sulphur, get carried into the bile and then get expelled out of your body.
Sulphur containing foods:
- turmeric extract
Glutathione is an anti-oxidant that is found in all of our cells that most people are deficient in. It contains sulphur. You can increase your glutathione levels by eating more of the above foods. Also add in Brazil nuts for the selenium which you need in order for your body to produce Glutathione (3 a day can give you your RDA of selenium)
Ingredient: Carbo vegetabilis
What it actually is: Vegetable charcoal- in homeopathy it is diluted.
How this relates to food: Charcoal promotes blood circulation.
Food that increase blood flow:
- Almonds (raw with the skin on)
- Raw cacao
What it actually is: Silicon dioxide
What it does: Chelates aluminum from the body, keeps the skin hydrated and firm.
Foods that contain the same mineral content:
Leafy green vegetables such as kale
So with all these things considered, I made a juice.
Skin Cure All Juice
Serves 2 ( But I usually have a double serving)
1 fennel bulb
3 leaves kale
2 green apples
I always juice my cucumber first so that I can run it through the juicer twice. If you are using a gear juicer, the second pressing extracts very little pulp if any. If you are using a centrifugal juicer, run it through three times.
Try this for a week and let me know how you feel in your skin.
